Eagles at Jets week 3 – pick & analysis

Philadelphia Eagles ML +111

This is a terrible spot for the Jets. Off a big MNF win on the road on a “short” week with banged up players and the Dolphins at London on deck while the Eagles come to New York pissed and very focused after a 0-2 start. Decker, Owusu and likely Chris Ivory out, RG Willie Colon had the first but limited practice yesterday. LG James Carpenter was also limited in practice this week. I like the Jets’ depth on RB, but not against a stout front seven from Philadelphia. They will have a very hard time running against the Eagles which puts the pressure on Fitzpatrick who will miss Eric Decker. When it comes to run-blocking, RT Breno Giacomini and RG Willie Colon are the weak side of this offensive line but Colon is still an above-average pass-blocker. He is atleast banged up or might be sidelined. His backup is a 2014 free agent who saw 5 snaps thus far. The Eagles already had a good front seven and run defense last season and they did a very good job in containing the run game behind the best OL in the league last week. With both guards banged up I expect the Eagles to have success getting to Ryan Fitzpatrick. I don’t expect the Jets offense to have much success here.

The Jets defense might be one of the best this year against teams that need to go vertical, just like we saw at Indy on Monday. But I like the Eagles matchup here. First we don’t know whether Revis plays or not as he was just limited yesterday. The system of Chip Kelly can take away the Jets strength on coverage and their offensive line is way better in picking up blitzes than the Colts’. They’ve got two premium Tackles with Lane Johnson and Jason Peters. With McCown, the Browns were really successful on the first drive by running and short throwing behind a good offensive line. Chip Kelly will try to avoid the coverage discrepancy by screen plays and short to some intermediate passes which is the strength of this team. He will also try to keep long drives alive to make the Jets defense tired. Leonard Williams admitted after the Browns game that he got serious conditioning issues on long drives. So Kelly’s gameplan can just be like that.
